Illuminated Cut Paper Light Boxes by Hari & Deepti

Deepti Nair and Harikrishnan Panicker (known collectively as Hari & Deepti) are an artist couple who create paper cut light boxes. Each diorama is made from layers of cut watercolor paper placed inside a shadow box and is lit from behind with flexible LED light strips. The small visual narratives depicted in each work often play off aspects of light including stars, flames, fireflies, and planets. Assembled from hundreds of cutout plants and animals from repurposed textbooks, artist Andrea Mastrovito created a striking installation where a colony of bats clings to the ceiling, a flight butterflies swarm the gallery walls, and all matter of insects, mamammals and plants intermingle across the floor. The sprawling artwork spans the realms of collage, diorama and trompe-l’œil and was inspired in part by H. G. Wells’ science fiction novel The Island of Doctor Moreau. 360° Visual Stories Cut into Paper Books by Yusuke Oono

This fun set of paper books was created by Japanese graphic designer and architect Yusuke Oono who conceived the idea as a clever way to illustrate scenes from individual stories in three dimensions. The 40-panel books are laser cut from paper and assembled into a booklet that can be viewed page by page or fanned out as a sort of layered diorama of silhouettes. Bang: Ai Weiwei's Latest Installation Made from 886 Antique Stools

Artist Ai Weiwei has unveiled a number of significant artworks in the last few weeks. The artist released a music video and created a large-scale diorama depicting scenes from his controversial imprisonment, and also created a sobering installation comprised of 150 tons of straightened rebar taken from schools that collapsed during the devastating 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Lastly at the 2013 Venice Art Biennale Weiwei contributed an installation consisting of 886 wooden antique stools called Bang. For centuries in Chinese culture it was common for families to have at least one of these handcrafted 3-leg stools for use in the home…
